CONMESA | Modular Early Education Furniture
conmesa:
encouraging creative collaboration and autonomy
socioeconomic, and racial disparities, preschools in the US are either low-quality,
unaffordable, or simply unavailable. How can we begin to bridge the gap in school
quality by transforming existing classroom spaces?
I designed conmesa while prioritizing affordability and multi-functionality. By creating
a single modular unit, quality classroom furniture can be made more affordable and
configured into tables, seating areas, and shelves. In addition to the table itself, I
created double-sided activity tiles to encourage a range of imaginative play while
remaining economical. Instead of buying a separate doll house and a separate play
kitchen, the one table can serve as both, saving money and space while allowing
children to use their imagination and form connections on their own.
As a designer, how can I create affordable solutions that could realistically
make education more accessible for all children?
